Have you ever wondered why there are so many problems in the world, like wars, disasters, disease, and difficulties of every kind? Sometimes we get so used to these kinds of things that we hardly even notice anymore. We assume that’s the way things have always been and always will be.
But you could hardly say that the world is in an ideal state. Especially when things hit closer to home, when we come face to face with difficulties in our own lives, then we question things. Could there be an origin for the problems we see in our world? Are these things coming to a culmination, as some have predicted?
The famed Doomsday Clock, maintained by the board of directors of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists of the University of Chicago, set at 89 seconds to midnight as of 2025, seems to express a general awareness that the world may be on the verge of an irreversible crisis. The symbolic “clock” reflects global threats like nuclear war and environmental disaster.
Certainly, many such threats exist. Not only nuclear war and ecological collapse but also virulent microbes, economic crash and other potential crises loom on the horizon. Since we possess the power to destroy ourselves, with human nature being what it is, it seems more a question of “when” than “if” there could be a serious global catastrophe.
The Center for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (CRED), an international nonprofit organization that collaborates with the World Health Organization (WHO), reported a dramatic increase in natural disasters over the last two decades to around 400 events per year globally, in contrast to approximately 100 annual events in the 1970s. Many of these events have also increased in intensity, as we saw with hurricanes Helene and Melissa.
These increases seem to speak a warning, as if nature were groaning under the weight of the burdens we have placed on it. Like the footsteps of a prehistoric beast stalking the land, they are among signs of the final proliferation of evil on Earth. It’s not a good idea to ignore those impact tremors, since their rumblings merely foreshadow the havoc that’s about to break loose.
We live in apocalyptic times with record heat, drought, fires, and other disasters becoming daily occurrences. Astronomical signs are being seen with increasing frequency which connect to biblical symbolisms (For more about these, see my Lighten the Earth book series, including Nautical Allegories of Scripture and upcoming book, The Dragon's Revenge. Jesus said of the times just before his return at the end of the age;
“…There will be signs in sun, moon, and stars; distress of nations on the earth with perplexity, the roaring of the sea, and rolling surge; 26 men fainting for fear in expectation of the things which are coming on the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 And then will they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 But when these things begin to come to pass, look up, and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” Luke 21:25-28
We are seeing events of the end times fulfilling all around us, but do we recognize and understand the significance of what we are seeing? Global catastrophes and charismatic movements are about to take the world captive. Are we aware of the coming deceptions to watch for?
Increasing reports of UFOs and aliens show the deceptive power of evil spirits. Many falsely believe we are about to enter a higher level of consciousness in the Aquarian Age. It’s believed that this could be a transitional time in the universe in which we’re coming closer to Utopia on our “evolutionary path.”
Such ideas are setting people up to be deceived by satanic forces in the end times, when fallen angels will pretend to be “spirit guides.” It’s the same type of “higher” experience the serpent promised Eve in the Garden of Eden that they lead people into, a deception that leads to death and sorrow.
It’s interesting how closely some of the New Age utopian ideas match some erroneous Christian interpretations of the temporal millennium. This false teaching promotes the idea that the end times will bring Christ to Earth to reign for a thousand years of peace. Many mistaken ideas focus on Israel for prophecy interpretation, even though the New Testament clarifies that the promise to Abraham is now for everyone who believes instead of any one nation. (See this link for an article on the same topic I wrote on another website).
Both mystical ideas and misinterpretations of scripture are preparing the world to receive Lucifer when he impersonates Christ’s return (aka, “the antichrist”). He will bring the nations together and talk of world peace while underhandedly working widespread destruction.
With so many predictions and prophecies floating around, it's difficult to know what is factual. And since responding to and preparing for threats could mean the difference between life and death, it’s essential to make sense of things and know how they relate to our lives.
There are reliable answers to be found in scripture about what’s happening and the bigger picture it points to, as well as what we can do to prepare. And while we don’t want to be unnecessarily alarmist, objectivity involves facing potential problems rather than downplaying or turning a blind eye to them.
The only way we can know the difference between truth and error is by careful, prayerful study of scripture. The Bible is our guide to life, and through studying it we may learn the significance of our times and how to avoid being deceived by what’s coming upon our world.
More important than any amount of knowledge or preparation is to hide in the refuge of Christ as we seek to understand his Word more, the Bible. As fallen humans, we cannot avoid deception in our own strength. We must depend on him moment by moment for insight and wisdom. As we do this, we may rest with calm assurance that he is our strength and solid anchor through turbulent times and that we do not need to fear as long as he is with us, because our eternity is secure.
If you haven’t received him as your Savior and chosen to make him a close Friend, I invite you to make that choice. He is the Friend of sinners, to guide us on this path. If we try to change ourselves before we come to him, we will never come. Bring him all your weaknesses and problems, just as you are. He will take you by the hand and lead you on the path to eternity.

For more information about how events are fulfilling the prophecies of scripture, see also my Lighten the Earth book series. The first book, Nautical Allegories of Scripture, is available on Amazon with excerpts free to read on leminspiration.com. It details how events like the Titanic's sinking and the great American solar eclipses have prophetic significance connecting to scripture.
The second book, America on the Brink is free to read, fully online. It details how major events in US history, such as the world wars, Mt. St. Helen's explosion, and 9/11/01 NYC are fulfilling the seven trumpets of Revelation.
Also, to understand God's role in end-time events, as related to the prophecies of Revelation, see also my article on this website, "Is God loving?"
